Texas Lions District 2-E2 Julien C. Hyer Lions Youth Camp Building Bridges Through Service

Julien C. Hyer Lions Youth Camp

Experience Texas. Connect with the world. Transform lives.

The Julien C. Hyer Lions Youth Camp brings together young people from across the globe for five to six transformative weeks in the heart of Texas. Since 1974, we’ve welcomed international students who live, learn, and serve alongside our communities—creating lasting bonds of friendship and understanding.

What Makes JCH Camp Special

A Journey Across Texas Our campers don’t just visit Texas—they experience it. From the vibrant energy of Dallas-Fort Worth to the stunning beauty of Lake Texoma, the historic charm of Wimberley and San Antonio, and the warm hospitality of Lubbock, each stop offers unique opportunities for cultural exchange and personal growth. Along the way, campers explore iconic locations like Palo Duro Canyon, Jacob’s Well, The Alamo, Blue Hole Regional Park, and AT&T Stadium.

Five to Six Weeks of Connection Approximately 30 young people aged 17-20 from countries around the world spend their summer building friendships, discovering new perspectives, and serving communities alongside Texas Lions. They participate in service projects, cultural activities, sporting events, and community gatherings. They return home as ambassadors of understanding and peace.

The Lions Difference Powered by Lions Clubs across Districts 2-E2 and 2-X1, this program embodies our commitment to youth development and international understanding. Every camper is hosted by Lions families who open their homes and hearts to create truly life-changing experiences. From pool parties and talent shows to Fourth of July celebrations and farewell dinners, every moment creates lasting bonds.

Our Legacy: Honoring Judge Julien C. Hyer

Portrait of Julien C. Hyer in a pinstripe suit, Texas Prisons Board, Fort Worth.Past International President Julien C. Hyer (1931-1932) believed in the power of youth to change the world. A Lion for 55 years, Judge Hyer distinguished himself as an attorney, judge, writer, poet, theologian, soldier, father, husband, and as the founder of the Lions Clubs International Youth Exchange Program.

His vision was simple yet profound: when young people experience different cultures and serve together, they create a more peaceful world. Today, our camp carries forward his legacy of friendship, service, and understanding.

The camp’s mission remains as vital today as it was in 1974: to foster and create a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.

Entity Information

Just the entire experience, living with an American family, going around all the places here around Texoma and also all of the activities that the Lions Club has been organizing for us—I’ve really been loving every single part of it.

Trying to describe how being at the JCH Camp was is hard—but in a good way. It’s one of those things that just changes your life in a way you never knew it could.

Texas

The five weeks I spent in Texas were some of the best of my entire life. Everyone with the Lions treated us as real family, took great care of us and made this experience unforgettable.

Europe

I’m just back home, but over the past two years I’ve now got other homes that are thousands of kilometers apart… I’ve always been used to answering ‘Italy’ when someone asks me where I am from, but now I should add Mexico and Texas. All because thanks to the Lions exchanges, I was able to meet brilliant people who welcomed me as if I’ve always been one of them—and that’s what home means.
